It was lovingly restored in the 1980s under the supervision of Nick and Limma Groves-Raines of renowned heritage architects, Groves-Raines Architects, Edinburgh. It is Grade B listed.

The school was built by the Earl of Ely in approximately 1840, although a school shows on earlier maps. It was built on the old coach road to Ballyshannon, the original steps up from the road are still there. Some of the trees planted at that time remain in situ in the garden. Many original features remain, including the original boy’s lavatory at the rear of the garden. The girl’s lavatory is behind the school master’s house next door, it dates from the late 1800s. 
Moyglass School was closed in the 1960s when Jones Memorial school opened.
